The MK Mix started out as an interview column in the local Citizen Newspaper back in August 2008. January 2009 saw The MK Mix go online with an archive of all its Citizen interviews. A year later in Jan 2010 The MK Mix held its first annual Business and Culture Exhibition.
What is the point of all of this? I hear you ask.
Well, The MK Mix is all about spotlighting people from minority ethnic and diverse backgrounds who are contributing positively through art, culture or enterprise, and to date, The MK Mix is the only independently owned ethnic-led media in Milton Keynes.
By placing ethnic people in the spotlight and in the mainstream local media, we remind the wider community that there is inherent value in the minority ethnic community, and they are contributing to the overall value of the city. It is undeniable. It is what The MK Mix calls ‘promoting culture’.
Beyond that, The MK Mix realises that minority communities cannot contribute positively if they do not have economic prosperity, so the other remit we have is to ‘encourage enterprise’. If there were more successful minority ethnic business people in the city, they could contribute more to their own and the wider communities. It is obvious, but that is why The MK Mix forms strategic alliances with forward-thinking organisation looking to empower communities through sustainable enterprise. It is what The MK Mix calls ‘encouraging enterprise’.
In a time of perpetual change and economic uncertainty, The MK Mix will continue to be a beacon and a voice that perpetually promotes culture and encourages enterprise, thus adding value to Milton Keynes as a new and vibrant city.
The question you have to ask your self is.... are you in the mix?
