The 1st Annual MK Mix Business and Culture Exhibition

25th to 27th January 2010

Promoting Culture Encouraging Enterprise

The First 3-day annual MK Mix Business and Culture Exhibition concluded on Wednesday 27th January at the Ramada Encore in Central Milton Keynes. The event is organised by the MK Mix in partnership with Business Link and supported by Thames Valley Police and is designed to promote the city’s rich culture through encouraging enterprise amongst small business and minority ethnic businesses.

The Exhibition was officially opened at a ceremony on Monday 25th January by the city’s Mayor Euan Henderson with a number of prominent figures in attendance including The Citizen Newspaper Editor Olga Norford, Equality Boss Navrita Atwal, Cabinet Member for Community Regeneration & Strategy Cllr Jenni Ferrans, Director of Milton Keynes Museum Bill Griffiths, and Enterprise Gateway Director Paul Griffiths.

Entertainment on the night was provided by city favourites Nicky Prince, Yaw Asiyama, Peter and Carmelle Daley, and Sohni Boutique’s Temoor Alam who rendered a classical Asian song accapella. The night was chaired by Dr Sola Adesola of Oxford Brookes University.    The three day exhibition, which was supported by Thames Valley Police, saw a “mix” of exhibitors including HR Consultants, an Independent Midwife, a Fine Artist, Milton Keynes Museum, MK Fostering and Adoption Team and Beauty Therapist to name a few. A full list of 2010 exhibitors can be seen here.

A unique feature of the 3-day event included a schedule of free business seminars co-ordinated and delivered by the Business Link. The MK Chamber of Commerce, Trading Standards and Milton Keynes Community Enterprise also delivered free business workshops as part of the programme.

The Exhibition was officially closed by Cllr Sam Crooks the leader of Milton Keynes Council who said he saw the event as a “new beginning” for promoting enterprise in the city even though the exhibition had officially come to an end. The Chief Executive of The Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce Rita Spada congratulated the organisers on their achievement and offered several words of encouragement to the exhibitors.

The MK Mix Founder noted that all the exhibitors were “pioneers” and assured them that The MK Mix Business and Culture Exhibition would be back in 2011 bigger and better to “Promote  Culture and Encourage Enterprise”.
